The lovely litte yueqin (or yue-qin is a small instrument with a round body, a short neck with nine or ten movable wooden frets and two single or double courses tuned a fourth or fifth apart.

It isn't really related to the mandolin, but it does seem to fill much of the same function in Chinese and Malaysian music as the mandolin does in western music, and it is occasionanlly called the moon mandolin.
