During the 1960s and 1970s Irish tourists in Greece started bringing home bouzoukis. Gradually the Irish developed their own instruments inspired both by the bouzouki and the mandolin. The terminology for these instruments are a bit confused to put it mildly. We have the octave mandola, the Irish cittern, the Irish bouzouki and countless other names, but nobody seems to agree what is what.
