Guitars and mandos are generally regarded as two completely different instrument families. There is some overlapping though - hybrid instruments like the Mandolinetto (mandolin-guitar) and the "Tenor lute," guitar shaped Irish bouzoukis and mandocellos (and other mando types too) and at least two "proper" guitars with strong links to the mando family: The archtop guitar and the tenor guitar.
