Musikalia Mando-lute or Lombard Mandolin - maple back | | Lombardic mandolins are hard to find and Musikalia seems to be the only big scale manufacturer who offers one. It's a pity they made such a mess out of it. Musikalia's "mando-lute" has single rather than double strings (a feature not unknown from historical Lombardic mandolins, but quite rare). It also sports such modern features as fixed frets and even a scalloped fretboard. So if you're looking for an "authentic" baroque mandolin, this is not it. It also suffers from Musikalia's usual overbuilding (heavy construction with lots of sound-killing clear varnish) and lack of details (first string's tuning peg too close to the neck making tuning difficult). It's a bit expensive for a factory made instrument too. A handbuilt proper Lombardic mandolin doesn't have to cost that much more. Maple ribs, scalloped concert fingerboard, inlaid soundboard, rosewood pegs, curly neck.
